INDIA MARKET OUTLOOK
The gems and jewellery market in India is home to over 300,000 players, and is expected to reach US$ 100 billion by 2025. The sector contributes around 29 per cent to the global jewellery consumption and is a major driver of foreign reserves in the country. The cumulative Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows in diamond and gold ornaments in the period April 2000 – June 2018 were US$ 1.15 billion, according to Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP).
India's gems and jewellery exports stood at US$ 20.73 billion, while gold demand rose to 523.93 tonnes in 2018. Exports of gold coins and medallions stood at US$ 258.35 million and silver jewellery export stood at US$ 503.17 million between April to November 2018.India's gems and jewellery market is all set for a revolution with the development of large retail brands and organized players.
